Maison M. Chapoutier believes that biodynamics completely redefines man’s relationship with the land. Guided by ancestral wisdom, the approach goes beyond organic growing, with the commit ment to preserving the nature of things and creating a connection between the life of the earth and influence of the planets. Michel believes that “wine comes from the sky, the earth, and our love for it.”

In the Rhône Valley vineyards of Maison M. Chapoutier, all chemical pesticides and herbicides are prohibited. Vineyards are nourished with organic matter, thereby preserving and promoting the good bacteria inherent in healthy soils. Additionally, all vineyard decisions, such as when to prune or harvest, are informed by the cycles of the earth, sun and moon.

The result is expressive and complex wines that reflect the typical character of the terroir of esteemed vineyard sites such as Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Michel’s respect for terroir is revealed in each vintage, reflecting his reverence for the soil, climate and his fellow human beings.
